As from the week commencing 13th October 2008 the Partners of Phoenix
Surgery have agreed to trial the Government’s wish for GP’s to provide
more appointments for those patients who find it difficult to get to the surgery
during their core working hours of 8.30am – 6.30pm.
The appointments outside of these core hours will NOT be
for emergencies and we will be unable to take telephone calls during these times. The
Out of Hours service for urgent requests to contact a doctor will still operate
as usual between the hours of 6.30pm and 8.00am. If you need a doctor during
that time please phone the surgery as usual and your call will automatically
divert to the Out of Hours service.
The appointments will be for people who wish to see their own doctor and want
to book well in advance, i.e. up to six weeks ahead or who wish to be seen within
a day or two.
In August we ran a survey of our patients asking them if and when they would
prefer earlier or later appointments. We have designed a service to offer
additional appointments which reflect the outcome of the survey.
Please see below the additional hours that the doctors will be offering appointments.

SATURDAY MORNINGS
We shall also be offering a Saturday morning surgery on alternate weeks where
you will be able to either book in advance to see your own doctor or book to
see whichever doctor will be holding the surgery on the date you require. Please
note that that this will NOT be an emergency service, but as
in the weekday, it is for patients who want to book a routine appointment and
find it difficult to get to the surgery in the normal surgery hours. Should
you require a doctor immediately please phone the surgery and your call will
be diverted to the Out of Hours service.
We shall be keen to receive your feedback on these additional appointments
and over the next few months we will be reviewing this new service. We
also have a feedback box in reception and welcome comments on any issues.
We’d like to assure you that the doctors will not be reducing the number
of appointments that they offer during the normal hours of the surgery. These
are extra appointments and like our normal service during the day you will be
able to book up to six weeks in advance or at short notice.
We hope you find our enhanced service to be of benefit to those of you who
have difficulty in seeing your doctor during the normal surgery hours. |
